Explore Kuhmo’s Natural Wonders: A Two-Trail Adventure

Discover the stunning beauty and rich history of Kuhmo on this easy and informative tour, perfect for nature lovers of all ages! Just a short 15-minute drive from the town center, we’ll explore two diverse nature trails that showcase the region’s natural and historical treasures.

Our first stop is the Lauttavaara Nature Trail, a 2-kilometer walk through an ancient forest. Here, you’ll observe fascinating signs of the Ice Age, explore unique plant life, and perhaps even spot some local wildlife.

Next, we’ll head to the Lentua Rapids, the largest free-flowing rapid of the region. From a wooden boardwalk, you’ll get up close to the rushing waters while learning about the exciting history of how these rapids were once used as transport routes for tar. This trail covers approximately 1.5 kilometers.

To conclude the tour, we’ll gather at a cozy laavu shelter by the rapids, where we’ll light a fire and enjoy freshly brewed coffee and a snack in the heart of nature.
