Transfer from Kajaani Airport to the hotel

Welcome dinner in a Kota tipi on the hotel beach

June 19th – THE DAY BEFORE MIDSUMMER

In Finland, Midsummer celebrations begin the evening before.

After breakfast, you will build the Kokko fire pit for the evening Midsummer bonfire under guidance. Afterwards, you will gather birch twigs with our guide to make a “Vihta” for the traditional cleansing ritual in the sauna. This involves “whipping” yourself with the tassel in the sauna, achieving total purification.

After the sauna and Midsummer dinner, the bonfire will be lit on the beach.

The celebration continues with music from a DJ until the early hours of the morning.

June 20th – MIDSUMMER

Brunch

You will have some time to relax or for other optional activities.

In the afternoon, you will be taken to a bear-watching area near the Russian border. At the camp, you will receive information about the bears and other wildlife you might see that evening. After a short walk, you will reach the observation cabins where you will spend the night. Please note the following: Smoking, alcohol, and making noise are prohibited. We recommend bringing your camera.

June 21st: RELAXATION AND OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

Early in the morning, you will be taken back to the hotel. This day is free for you to relax or participate in optional activities, such as swimming through rapids, hiking through the beautiful Finnish forests, canoeing, or much more. In the evening, you will experience a traditional smoke sauna. While the sauna is being heated, both the door and window are closed. They will be opened shortly before you begin your sauna session to clear the smoke. The aroma in the sauna is unique—an unforgettable experience!

The farewell dinner will be served outdoors or in a Kota tipi on the beach. We’ll be serving Finnish-style salmon cooked over an open fire with various side dishes.

The Celts celebrated the summer solstice, called Alban Hefin, for 12 days.

It was warm, sunny, nature was in full bloom, and summer could be smelled, tasted, and heard. After the long winter and its hardships, it was time to celebrate. People gave thanks to the now “pregnant” Earth Mother. These were days full of pleasure and joy.

Women brewed strong beer, spiced with secret herbs, which had an aphrodisiac effect. Everyone danced around the fire. Miracles happened. Forest and meadow creatures were seen: elves, dwarves, goblins… After Christianization, the Catholic Church forbade these pagan customs. The name was changed and, since Midsummer (Juhannus in Finnish), has been named after John the Baptist. The church’s prohibitions were largely ignored, and the celebrations continued in secret.
